"COLBY and the THE SPIRIT OF 1776  "
      As America celebrates its 250th birthday, Colby found himself wondering about an important piece of history.  What if dogs had been involved in the founding of the country?  The thought stayed with him all morning as he made his rounds at Clearview.  As he passed the front desk, Emily and Myli were helping clients.  Aubrey and Maya were keeping the lobby looking festive, while Kyle, Carrie, Jess, and the entire team stayed busy caring for patients.  Meanwhile, Colby was conducting historical research.  Mainly by napping.  But very serious historical research.
      By lunchtime, Colby had developed a theory.  If dogs had attended the meetings that helped shape America 250 years ago, things might have gone a little differently.  For example:  "We hold these truths to be self-evident..."  Everyone deserves belly rubs.  "No taxation without representation..."  No treat jar without canine consultation.  "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness..."  Especially if happiness involves a game of fetch.  Colby was fairly certain these ideas would have received overwhelming support.  As he shared his findings with Dr. LaFaver, he began to think about something else.
     For 250 years, America has been built on communities helping one another.  At Clearview, he sees that every day.  Families caring for their pets.  Clients donating items to local pet charities.  Team members caring for their patients.  People doing their best to make life better for the animals they love.   That seemed like a pretty good tradition to Colby.  As the afternoon sun shone through the windows, he settled into his favorite supervisory position near the front desk and reflected on his work.
     America may have had its Founding Fathers.  But Clearview has its Founding Pawther.  At least according to Colby.  And after a careful review by absolutely nobody else, that title was unanimously approved.
